On the morning of March 1, new images of the 2nd China International Consumer Products Expo (Hainan Expo) mascots were unveiled. The images depict the Hainan Gibbons of Industry (Chanye Yuan in Chinese), including the Farmer Hainan Gibbons (Zhongzhi Yuan), the Diver Hainan Gibbons (Qianshui Yuan), and the Astronaut Hainan Gibbons (Yuhang Yuan).
The 2nd Expo is themed "Share open opportunities, co-create a better life," and is scheduled to be held from April 12 to 16 in Haikou, the capital of Hainan. France will be the guest-of-honor country this year.
The designs of the Hainan Gibbons of Industry were based on the original Hainan Expo mascots, the two Hainan Gibbons - Yuan Yuan and Xiao Xiao – or collectively Yuan Xiao for the duo. The new images focus on the three future industries of the Hainan Free Trade Port, the agricultural industry, the deep-sea industry, and the aerospace industry, giving the mascots a new purpose and personality. These newly released images also demonstrate that the Hainan Free Trade Port and the Expo will open their arms wide and invite people from across the globe to share in the island’s excellent development opportunities.
The Farmer Hainan Gibbons (Zhongzhi Yuan) represent the seed industry of the Nanfan project. The poster shows Yuan Yuan with a red hat and a pair of gloves cultivating high-tech seedlings in the field while Xiaoxiao is holding a test tube for performing research.
The Diver Hainan Gibbons (Qianshui Yuan) represent the deep-sea technology industry. Yuan Yuan and Xiao Xiao are ready to start their exploration of the deep sea, equipped with diving suits and everything they will need for an underwater voyage.
The Astronaut Hainan Gibbons (Yuhang Yuan) represent the aerospace technology industry. Yuan Yuan and Xiao Xiao greet the universe and work together to create a better future. Yuan Yuan and Xiao Xiao are wearing spacesuits with China’s national flag.
In the future, these cute mascots will be on sale in various forms. During the Expo, several activities will also be held for the protection of the rare, precious animals that inspired them, the Hainan gibbons.
